February 11th: Robert Weaver's Historic Appointment

On this day in 1961, Robert Weaver was sworn in as the administrator of the Housing and Home Finance Agency, achieving the highest federal post ever held by a Black American at the time. This milestone marked significant progress in the inclusion of African Americans in federal government positions.

February 12th: NAACP Founded


The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded on February 12, 1909. It was formed in response to ongoing violence against Black people and is one of the most influential civil rights organizations in American history.

February 13th: The Renaissance, First Black Professional Basketball Team

In 1923, the first black professional basketball team, "The Renaissance," was organized. This was a significant milestone in the history of African Americans in sports.

February 14th: Frederick Douglass' Chosen Birthday

Frederick Douglass, a renowned abolitionist, chose to celebrate his birthday on February 14th. He was born into slavery and did not know his actual birth date, so he selected this date to commemorate his life and legacy.

February 15th: Nat King Cole's Passing

On this day in 1965, the renowned singer and pianist Nat King Cole passed away in Santa Monica, California. He was a groundbreaking African American musician and singer, renowned for his smooth voice and significant contributions to jazz and pop music, with timeless classics like "The Christmas Song," "Mona Lisa" and "Nature Boy."

February 16th: Ice T's Birthday

Ice T, an influential figure in the West Coast hip-hop scene and a successful actor, was born on February 16, 1958. Celebrated for his powerful lyrics in rap music and his notable role in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," Ice-T has made significant contributions to both the music and television industries.

February 17th: Michael Jordan's Birthday

Michael Jordan, born on February 17, 1963, is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His success on the court and his impact on it has made him an iconic figure in sports and culture.
