As we enter the second week of February, our journey through Black History Month continues with a deepened appreciation for the rich tapestry of African American history and culture. This week, we will explore a range of pivotal moments and influential figures, each contributing uniquely to the narrative of resilience, triumph, and enduring legacy in the African American community.

February 4th: Rosa Parks' Birthday

Rosa Parks, born on February 4, 1913, played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement. Her courageous refusal to give up her seat on a segregated bus led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

February 5th: Hank Aaron's Birth

On February 5, 1954, legendary baseball player Hank Aaron was born. He made his Major League Baseball debut on April 13, 1954. He broke Babe Ruth's home run record and held it for 33 years.

February 6th: Bob Marley's Birthday

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

February 7th: The Father of Black History

On this day, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, known as “The Father of Black History,” initiated Negro History Week in 1926 to highlight African-American history. This week-long observance later evolved into the month-long celebration of Black History Month in 1976.

February 8th: Harry S. McAlphin

Harry S. McAlphin made history on February 8, 1944, as the first African American accredited to attend a White House press conference.

February 9th: Alice Walker's Birthday

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any.

February 10th: Nelson Mandela's Release from Prison

Nelson Mandela was released from Victor Verster Prison on February 11, 1990, after 27 years of imprisonment, marking a pivotal moment in the fight against apartheid.
